Are you where you want to be? Do you enjoy your job? Is the relationship you are in giving you life fulfillment? Are you physically and/or financially where you want to be?
If you answer NO to any of these questions then it may be time to look at some of your daily activities and start to make adjustments or try new things that will help get you to your goals in life.
In this article, I am going to tell you 3 things that I have done that has begun to change my status and mindset. But before I do that, you may be saying to yourself what have I actually done? What can I or this article offer me? And to be honest, I would agree with you. There is a ton of "self-help" advice out there and everywhere you turn, some high profile guru is telling you exactly what you need to do. So, why aren't you listening? What is holding you back? Well, I hope to help you figure all that out.
I've struggled with these very same questions for many years and then it finally clicked one day. It seems simple but you just have to start. You just have to stop worrying about what others think and you need to be ok with messing up or not always having the answers. This is by far the biggest struggle most people deal with. The internal struggle is real but can be overcome. And I believe it's not by hearing one more guru or influencer tell you what works but it's by seeing results from others you can relate to and also trying new things and seeing what works.
In life, it's easy to settle or be complacent. The easy road is paved with unfulfilling scenery and offers little to help you reach your full potential. The more difficult path is one that takes commitment, consistency and perseverance. Here, on this road, is where you will find true identity, purpose and live the life you have always wanted.
So, what are some things you can do to help create a NEW YOU and begin to move towards where you want to be? I break them down in 3 things that I have done and you can too.
1. Read Every Day
Nothing will help you more than learning and studying from those that have been through the journey. Now this may seem like a simple suggestion but the idea of reading daily will help you gain perspective, gain knowledge and gives you an individual account of what steps it takes to get to where you want to be. There are many great books to choose from and depending on what sort of subjects you may be interested in, the possibilities are endless. This may not work for you but what I like to do is read from several different books at one time. This allows me to pick different topics and I can study and make notes about those particular subjects. At the time of writing this post, I am currently reading:
"Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill
"The School of Greatness" by Lewis Howes "Republicans Buy Sneakers Too" by Clay Travis
These are all great books but, as you can see, they cover a variety of topics and interests. Knowledge is power and spending time growing our mind and exercising our brains is just one way to begin to change and become a new and better version of you. Find some time in your daily routine to read and you will begin to see progress in all areas of your life.
2. Listen to Podcasts
One of the biggest changes and shifts in my mindset came from the discovery and power of podcast. Growing up, all I listened to was music. And I love all kinds of music. I would get most of my motivation and inspiration from the latest Eminem album or some other Old School hip-hop album and while this would help and give me short term satisfaction, nothing ever stuck long term. Outside of a few memorable lyrics, what was the actual substance that I could use to create a new mindset? Then I discovered podcasts. And everything changed. I was hooked and now I can't get enough. And just like reading books, there are many different podcasts that cover many different topics but its the ones that focus on business, business development, self-help and mindset that I gravitated towards. The idea that I could listen to the worlds best business minds talk about and teach me their secrets was game changing. I try to absorb podcast on a daily basis. And just like the books I read, I listen to many different ones. I made a social media post probably 6-8 months ago about my top 5 business podcast and it was even hard to narrow that down. Rather than rank them, I would just offer you a few that I listen to and give you my suggestions:
In NO particular order:
Dropping Bombs w/ Brad Lea "@therealbradlea"
The MFCEO Project w/ Andy Frisella "@andyfrisella"
The Tony Robbins Podcast w/ Tony Robbins "@tonyrobbins"
The Gary Vee Audio Experience w/ Gary Vaynerchuk "@garyvee"
The Cardone Zone w/ Grant Cardone "@grantcardone"
There are many more I could suggest but this article is about getting you to a new and better place and focusing on mindset and these podcast are excellent and provide great content and cover many different topics in business, finances and life. I highly recommend listening to these but feel free to find your own. The big take away is that listening to podcast will be a great addition to your new mindset and to helping you navigate down the new road you are traveling.
3. Create a Network
It's not my saying but I repeat it often and it's become something that I believe in 100%.
"Your Network is Your Net Worth."
You have to surround yourself with people that can level you up. These people need to push you. Demand more from you and encourage you to be better on a daily basis. The idea that its not what you know but who you know is never more in play than it is today. With social media and the ease and access you have to higher profile people, gives you a major advantage to creating a substantial network. No matter what business you are in, connecting with individuals and businesses that can help you achieve your goals and dreams is essential. I believe that nothing great can ever be achieved alone. You need people in your life to help you, shape you, guide you and push you to be the best version of yourself. If you feel like you can do it alone then you're playing a very difficult game and one that will catch up to you in some or many areas of your life. The biggest mistake is thinking you can do it alone. I learned very early that it's the people around you that make you who you are. It's ok to add and subtract in this area as well. If someone is holding you back, then it may be time to cut that person loose.
If you create a clear vision and have clearly defined goals and objectives and you make them clear to those around you and to the ones you are trying to attract, this will manifest itself into a better life and you will be well on the way to being the person you've always wanted to be.
No dream is too big. Nothing is impossible. Develop a plan, change your focus and apply these 3 ideas to reach your full potential. I'm pulling for you and I believe in you.
